New kitten not eating!!
I got a 12 wk old kitten yesterday and he has not really eaten today. When he was brought, we were told that he likes cottage cheese, but isn't that bad for him? Well, I thought that so we bought some food and kitten milk but he doesn't consume it. He only drinks the milk when we feed him with a syringe. What do I do???

are you 100% sure of his age? you could mix the cheese with the cat food. then make it more food than cheese. you need to wean it off of cheese asap
not 100%. We tried placing dried food on top of the cheese before, but he just avoided it and ate the remaining cheese.
Don't feed a kitten cottage cheese!
Cats can be notoriously picky eaters. I would just put food out, leave it for 20 minutes then put it away if he hasn't eaten it. Try again a couple hours later. Eventually he'll be hungry enough.

It's been almost 8 hours since he ate and I'm getting really worried.
He's also been sleeping a lot- probably because he has not eaten.

It's a battle of wills with cats. Does he have water? And are you feeding him wet kitten food? You don't want him to get dehydrated.

Kittens often refuse to eatwhen they're not feeling well. Unfortunately, there is a long list of possible health conditions that can stop them from dipping into their food bowl as they should. Anything from a clogged nose to intestinal parasites, constipation or an upset tummy can contribute to your kitten not eating. 🐱

Water and wet food has been left out for him, but he's not eating or drinking any of it. I tried to get him to drink the water, even with a syringe, but he's not drinking it. I also tried to put a chunk of food near his mouth but he just turns away.

UPDATE: He's only 9 weeks old! (We were falsely told). He also just puked and is now energetic again. We are planning to take him to the vet for a check-up. Seeing as he's our first cat, does anyone have any tips/advice on how to look after him?

It was about 10 in the morning. I am going to try and give him food again.

Make sure you feed them good quality food tailored towards kittens (they have different nutritional needs to adult cats so they need tailored food) and make sure there is always fresh water available. If you can afford it, a cat water fountain is great because cats usually prefer running water in comparison to standing water (this is not essential though e.g. I don't have one, but my cat likes to drink from a running tap). Do not give your kitten any dairy products unless they are sold as suitable for kittens and are lactose free, but a complete kitten food should be enough anyway, you shouldn't need to supplement with anything else.
Seeing as you've found out that he's only 9 weeks old, what is his vaccination status?
I would start to socialise him as well to different sounds/experiences/animals etc if you haven't started already.
I'd also recommend a scratching post/tree because he will want to scratch and climb things - better it's something like this instead of your furniture and curtains!
Another thing to keep in mind is to keep your bin and toilet lids shut if you don't do so anyway. Kittens are curious and if they were to fall head first into the bin/toilet it may not be able to climb back out.
You'll need to pretty much baby-proof your house. Nothing the kitten could choke on or get caught in, no wires hanging around, check windows/staircases etc in case the kitten could fall.
