How Do I Make Friends In Second Year? (DMU)

So I didn't really have many friends during first year and tbh I felt very lonely. I'm not really sure how to approach making friends going into second year, especially with all this Covid crap. Any advice?
I'm in the same position, if you find the answers i'd like to know too :/

Uni hasn't even technically started and the same loneliness from last year is settling in. I'm thinking of doing some volunteering with the sustainability group although I'm not sure what that'll entail considering it has to be socially distanced.

Did you make some acquaintances during first year you can meet up with?
If u go to DMU you belong to the streets

I met one person last year on the Fresher's bar crawl who I'm actually meeting up with on Sunday for a drink. She's going into 3rd year when term starts and she's absolutely lovely but obviously you don't want to rely on one person for all your social interactions, even if they are really nice. I was thinking about joining the LGBTQ+ society but like you said idk how that's going to play out with all the social distancing stuff :/

That's good! At least you have someone you can talk to. Maybe you can meet her friends too?

Hopefully lgbt soc pulls through for you, I have seen zero updates on how our societies are gonna be run this year either so I just haven't looked into it. What's your living situation like, do you have people to socialise with there?

I do beleive I met some of her friends on the bar crawl last year. Wether she's friends with them now still idk but I hope I can sort of spill over into her social circle if that makes sense. And yes I too hope the LGBTQ+ soc pulls thru 😂

As for my living situation, I live with 4 other people. We were in the same flat in Newarke Point last year. They're decent people but they sort of have their own things going on. One of them I haven't even seen since I moved into my new house because they're always next door (they're best friends with the people next door), one of them is always out with their friends and the other 2 aren't very social people; they're nice but they like to be in their rooms most of the time. Sometimes we all catch each other in the kitchen/ living room and talk but we don't necessarily hang out ukno?

Honestly same, I'm hoping i get closer to my few individual friends and they end up dragging me into their own friend groups lol VERY lazy wishful thinking ha.

And i get what you mean, I had a similar-ish situation last year and this year too. Legit just been me and my coursemate who moved in so far and she's been spending all her time with her boyfriend so...not great.

Unfortunately I don't :frown: otherwise I'd be down to meet up! I go to uni of surrey. Not sure how much you know about it but the town is pretty dead here so I can't even go out and explore much on my own.

Aw that's a shame :frown:

The impression I get of Surrey is that it's posh and all I know about it is it's where Thorpe Park is and it's also where Brian May (Queen's guitarist) lives, lmao. Other than that I'm not familiar with the area.
