Worth paying £5 to join conservative party in hope of bringing Boris down from inside

The tories did this to labour, joining the labour party and voting Corbyn as leader convinced he'd never be able to win labour a general election.

Wondering if the reverse could be done? Looks like in 3 months of joining you have voting rights in the leadership, and might even be able to deselect your local MP if you have the numbers in your constituency.

To ease my conscience I could also donat £5 to the libdems.

Worth doing, or waste of time?

On a large scale yes, but one person joining a party with thousands of members I don’t think is enough momentum to bring them down.

Interesting concept, I think the movement is out there to do it, it’s just getting word out and actually getting it done would be the hard part. I can see it working though, for sure.

Your going to be out of luck if getting rid of Boris is your goal.. There isn't any way that you can influence this due to the way the party works.

Were he to be subject to a vote of no confidence, and loose, he would be gone. He then can't stand again in the next leadership race - so his future never reaches you as a member.

But you would be then able to influence the next choice of leader after Boris. You'd get a say out of the final two candidates. And as you mention you'll also get a say in some local issues.

The only real negative would be that were it to happen on mass you would give the Conservative party a big thing to boast about. Labour have enjoyed capitalising on 'the largest party in Europe' since their membership boomed around the Corbyn election. How many of those members were really supporters doesn't really matter to the general public, all they see is the marketing headline the party uses.

The strategy seems based on the assumption that the Conservatives are unable to identify detect mass entryism attempts and lack the ability to effectively implement their own counter-entryism strategies.
Remember what happened when Arron Banks attempted to lead an exodus of supporters of the leave.eu campaign and disenchanted ukip figures into the Conservative Party? :holmes:

I think it's a good thing for anyone interested in politics to join a party and become more engaged with our democratic process. Doesn't even particularly matter which one you join.

as opposed to middle class, ignorant, champagne socialists. after all, neither they nor him particularly represent the old (or even new) labour.

The Conservative Party does not have a vacancy for leader. The selection process is largely governed by MPs, who had the mental illness in large numbers to support Mr Johnson when there were other Brexit supporting candidates who are at least less incapable. If Michael Gove had become leader, think about how much better the pandemic response would have been, even though he is the rudest man in politics.
