hello! i posted on here a while ago, but haven't posted anything since so i thought i would re introduce myself!
Where are you applying?
Reading, Manchester, Sheffield, UCL, UWIC
What grades do you need?
ABB/BBB
What subjects do you do?
Psychology, Sociology, Geography
Have you sent off your UCAS?
Yep sent off on 18th November
Did you get much work experience?
A few days shadowing SLTs, worked in schools, sign language.

Ive got an offer from UWIC- but not my first choice. Ive had questionnaires from Manchester and Reading and sent those off yesterday and today. And ive got an interview at Sheffield on 14th December. Does anyone else have one then?

Helloo, i have an interview at Sheffield on the 14th as well, so i'll see you there! What experience of sign language do you have? I'm doing a sign language course as well  x

I dont know, I just have a bad feeling, it didnt go as well as UCL did definately! The woman who was interviewing me didnt seem to impressed haha!

The listening thing you cant prepare for at all, its just listening to words etc and the written is fairly simple, so dont worry!

I'm scared now, i wanted you to come back and say it went really well and everyone was really lovely, haha. Well fingers crossed it didn't go as badly as you thought and that you get an offer! & Thank you for letting me know. I got my first offer today, from Manchester, quite excitinggg! x
Well done on the offers ladies! Got rejected from Reading today - I'm so gutted because that was going to be my firm if I got in :frown: Oh well, everything happens for a reason!

It's quite exciting to see people are going to be at UEA on the 14th - me too! Although I do have a question - I'm coming from London so my parents are giving me a lift, but what do I do with them when I get there?! Is there like a special parent creche that we can leave them at for a few hours, or do they come in, or just does anyone know? Thanks!
bumblebee111191
i put about the lecturers on my questionnaire as well!!
nope not yet :frown: starting to get really worried...
yeah but i was amazed at how much green space there was, and i imagine that it'll be nice in the summer
my interview's on Monday at UEA, so really nervous about that! i have to be there at 8am :/

I don't think you need to worry yet  You still have plenty of time for them to reply! All you can do now is hope for the best. What are your predicted grades?
Oops, sorry about the interview day mistake, I read zanzapan's post about her interview being today and got mixed up. Will you stay near UEA the night before for Monday's interview?

Don't worry about it! I got rejected from Reading last year because my predicted grades weren't high enough, even though they got my hopes up by sending me the questionnaire. They wouldn't know a good applicant if it hit them collectively in the face lol. Out of all the people I met who applied there, none of them got in anyway!

Hope so! Did they give any indication of how long it would be before you hear anything? Where else have you applied?

Speech and Language Therapy is brilliant, when you're qualified you'll be working with so many different types of people; you'll never have a day that's the same as the next. There will be opportunities to travel to English speaking countries I guess, as SLT's are scarce at the moment you'll be welcomed with open arms. And you'll be able to travel around England as the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists links everywhere together.
We'll all end up specialising into something I guess, working with a particular patient group or people with a particular difficulty.
Do you want to be recommended universities in England? Reading University is my favourite out of all the Universities and SLT courses I've looked at, but I think quite a lot of people like UCL. What are your predicted grades? (although I guess they might be different as you are from Ireland?)
Hey, everyone.

I have an unconditional offer to study at King's in 2010 from last years UCAS cycle. I may be reapplying for speech therapy, but I'm not really sure. I'm meeting a private therapist for coffee on Friday and then observing her in several schools in my local area. I don't really know if it's for me yet so this work experience is pretty important in helping me decide on whether I should withdraw from King's. Any advice from people who have already observed a working therapist? I don't know why, but I'm slightly nervous about it!

I would love to teach English or work in publishing so studying speech sciences at undergraduate level would be a risk. Is it easy to get a place on a postgraduate course if I decide that's what I want to do after I graduate? Out of the universities that offer the undergraduate degree I can only really see myself at UCL.

Hey

When I organised observations with a SALT I knew it would make or break my enthusiasm for the career, but it definitely made it! I think it is very valuable, and will really help you make your final decision.

If you are interested in both English and Speech Therapy, your degree at King's would help. That would stand you in good sted for doing a PGCE or a MSc/Postgraduate in Speech Therapy. The latter is very competitive though, so if you're not very certain of that career path then it'll be harder for you.

yeah but i just get worried!! my predicted grade are really confusing cause my school starts A-levels in year 11, so i've got a C in Chem (but re-taking to get a B hopefully) and i'm predicted two A's and i've got another C in physics, so it's my grades, if anything will let me down :frown:
nope i'm getting up at 5am for it!! not looking forward to that! ha might have to sleep in the car..

Ouch... that won't be nice getting up that early! So you're predicted AACC? That's really good! And you have two science subjects which must be hard. What are the subjects your two As are from? Just wait and see, and hopefully you will be pleasantly suprised! That's strange that you started A Levels in year 11... Surely makes everything more stressful! Also, as they want ABB which is 320 points.. AAC is exactly the same, so I don't think you are at a disadvantage

aww you're really nice! nah im from the north so we do A-levels i'm predicted AAB. so hopefully that'll be enough!
yeah i was looking at Reading and it does look amazing, and oh soo pretty. but it's really far away from me, and near scary big London, ugh i hate being such a wuss. I heard UEA is meant to be good too. I can't go to the irish universities though cause 4 a-levels are needed :frown:
That's good anyways, i'm starting to look forward to it...if i get in
thanks x
I JUST GOT AN UNCONDITIONAL OFFER FROM UCP MARJON! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY! :woo:

They just need to see my A level certificates, then it's all sorted!

I am the happiest person on all of TSR right now!
