The Guardian table is widely criticised on this forum, in my social circles and by lecturers at my college. It's not the guide they recommend and it's not the guide people use or refer to. When it's published each year nobody gives a damn aside from the people waiting to see what the biggest LOL is. There were a lot this year... :yep:

If you have to discuss university guides or use one to give you a general idea of the top universities in the UK then avoid the Guardian. Simple.

You have not said a single thing that has countered what Smack and I have been saying.

Haha ok, and criticising a uni you've never heard of and know nothing about is demonstrative of the sense you come out with

I can't be bothered with this any longer.
Durham tops for both history and english, above oxbridge?!

wait, it gets more ludicrous...

king's above oxbridge for history! :wow:

Just put her on ignore. It's there to save your IQ from idiots.
the history one is hilarious. York is incredibly low, but higher than LSE :s-smilie:.....RHUL boosted up the league tables, lancaster is somehow better than York, and durham is better than oxbridge.

jesus christ.

I'd say that's about right.
That's the best league table I've ever seen tbh.

St.Andrews and York could be swapped around, but I'm not arguing.

"King's College London, the London School of Economics, Imperial College London and University College London, each have international reputations that in this country only Oxbridge can beat" (the guardian newspaper)

ANYONE ( THAT INCLUDES THE FREAKIN LEAGUE-TABLE MAKERs) WHO STATES SOMETHING DIFFERENT IS, EXCUSE MY FRENCH, JUST DOWNRIGHT RETARDED. :indiff:

If you are a snobbish Oxbridge reject you might believe that.

Most overrated uni along with St. Andrews.

You think?

Hmm, I always thought it was right up there with UCL ect.
It probably is, I'm not saying it's "better" than that group, but on par.

I guess for certain subjects you are right. But not across the board. Certainly it is a very good university, I just think it is overrated.

I think it's better than KCL overall.
UCL is probably slightly better.
Imperial you can't count, it's excellent for sciences, but because it doesn't do arts, it's hard to compare it overall.

To each their own I guess, I wouldn't be unhappy with an offer from there anyway!
Why do you think it and St Andrews are overrated?
Can someone post the computer sci table please? apologies if this has been done, internet being slow

Why does it matter what subjects Imperial offers????

Does this mean i cant compare Cambridge with Swansea because Cambridge doesnt offer vocational degrees???

Look at student calibre (average grades of accepted pupils) for the quality of a university....

It matters because I want to study Law.

Imperial doesn't offer Law.

Hence, to me, it's a waste of space :p:

But no, I jest. I just mean it's more difficult to value it for Law, overall, I agree, you have to come up with objective data.
Not average entry grades though

I think he means that, relative to the rest of the Russell and 1994 Group universities, they're not head and shoulders better than them.
Smack
Again, you prove that you merely hate the Guardian's because it doesn't say what you want it to say.

Actually the guardian ranking is pathetic because it contains rubbish related to student satisfaction, 'student added value' etc........... i worked out something like 65% of the guardian score was related to left-wing pathetic rubbish and not actually academic/useful university data!
