just wondered what people who are at swansea at the moment think of the accommodation and what are the best places to be in ? any pics would be great! cheers x
I'm living on campus, in one of the new halls. All of the new halls - Caswell, Langland and Oxwich - are en-suite, which is absolutely fantastic, and the cleaners even clean it for you once a week. Compared to the accommodation in the village, halls are absolutely luxurious. Also, whereas those who live in the village have to catch a bus every day to go to lectures, those who live in halls just get to roll out of bed 10 minutes before a lecture starts and hey presto - you're in your lecture. On a more nerdy note, living on campus comes in very handy if for any reason you need an emergency trip to the library.
If you put Swansea down as your insurance offer, you are more likely to be put in the village arent you? I really like the on-site accomodation and definately wouldnt mind coming to Swansea but the student village really put me off...

It is pretty though! All that greenery and streams, and the buildings look nice too - also great views from the top of the hill by Hendrefoelan House, which in itself is quite an old building and has grounds which are lovely to revise in. You would love it - I think all my flatmates put down campus accommodation on the form as first choice, but all ended up loving it in the village The atmosphere is great, I can't emphasise it enough - for example in the summer when it's sunny everyone decamps outside onto the grass and have barbecues, play frisbee, revise, sunbathe, kick footballs around etc., and you see pretty constantly people either setting out to or coming back from the beach!
Why did you / or would you choose Swansea over Aber?
I dont really "like" league tables, but i'll use them to justify this. Swansea is above Aber in the tables. Swansea is also investing a huge amount in the Law School - it's one of the "strategic growth areas" the university has identified.
Swansea as a place is MUCH better than Aber, as you're from Neath, I dont think I need to go into too much depth on that! And actually getting to Swansea would be much easier for you than having to go from the Neath area to Aber!
I actually did choose Swansea over Aber. I applied to both to do International Politics/Relations. Although Aber's Politics Department is highly regarded, I still think Swansea is a better University, and I've been very lucky that the Politics dept in Swansea recruited a Professor who is a specialist in the area of IR that I have a big interest in...
Swansea is a lovely place, but Aber is smaller so you seem to know everyone around you sooner...of course this could be a disadvantage to some people too!
