Cardiff Societies

I was just wondering if there was a list of societies that are available at Cardiff?

What kind of societies is everyone hoping for/looking forward to ?

None, a lot are based on the main campus and I'm at heath which makes things rather difficult. I quite fancy going to the veggie society though so may sign up next year. Which ones are you interested in?

I'd love to join the yoga, equestrian (just to start learning), cooking and the tea one:rolleyes:.
I'd also join the Law society because that's what I would do !
Do you know if its possible to start your own society? Just in case

Ahh yeah, the tea one looks great! And I believe so, have a look on e website I linked, it should be on there
Hmm, the societies I've taken an interest to joining is the Swimming, Rowing and Law ones. Maybe I'll quickly scout the LGBT society for hot guys and if I find some I'll join

Perhaps the Welsh society aswell so my welsh speaking standards don't slip.

There better not be a limit in how many you can join

I only joined two in my first year, (LGBT and PsyCardiff). They're a good way to meet people and they're actually pretty good at Cardiff . I would DEFINITELY join the one relating to your course though as it's an easy way to meet friendly people on your course.

To officially join the societies you have to be a member of Cardiff Universities SU. Although if you've looked at the website and seen a specific society you like the sound of it might be worth finding their booth at the societies fayre and asking if they'd mind you coming to the socials (I can't see any society having a problem with this). They'll probably manually add you to the mailing list. Although for societies you have to pay to join it might be problematic.

I was going to join Swimming at the society fayre but it was like £40 to sign up for the year :/. Though I *think* that gets you free swimming for the year so if you definitely want to go lots it would be a good society to join. Definitely join your course society, my friend does Law and she actually loves the socials (though I don't think they're that regular). The LGBT society is free to join so do sign up for that. I've only been to two socials, but met the guys I usually hit town with there! It's definitely worth going to the first couple of socials though as you mix with all the other Universities LGBT club so it's a good way to meet lots of different people. They do a scene crawl the week after Fresher's so it's a good way to see the Cardiff gay bars. Possibly see you there! :P.

They suggest you don't commit to more than 2 societies but there's nothing stopping you joining them all :P, it's just you might have difficulties going to all their socials. Although course socials occur maybe once to three times a month max. The societies you mentioned all seem pretty manageable anyway .

Cheers for the info!
Looking to join Maths society (my course), Atheist/secularist society (my beliefs), anime soc and gaming soc (my interests) and jiu jitsu, because I really want to learn (and also because I'm 5 foot tall, welp). Lots of societies, but should be fun!

Each society plans its own socials, so it varies depending on society. Some have them as regularly as twice a week, others once every two month. No you don't need to attend them all, but you should probably go to the first few to get yourself known and familiar with other members.
I really hope I can join Cardiff uni's societies, they look really good! Cardiff Met (from what I can see) dont have any I really like the look of :/

I know you can get an affiliate membership with Act-one - the drama society so you dont have to be a student at cardiff university to join. I'm not sure about the rest.
I'm starting in September hopefully, I'm looking forward to joining the Women's Football, Socialist Party and SOCSI (I'm going to study sociology)

I have a long list of societies I am interested in, I just need to pick a few. Some of it comes down to cost though, I would love to join the equestrian society to keep riding, but if it is very expensive then I probably won't. I'd also like to do Yoga, maybe Ji-jitsu, photography, feminist, harry potter, some form of dance... I guess I'll go to the fayre and chose then.
