Personal statement intro.

Can I start my personal statement with "Let's not beat around the bush" or is this too informal? help!!

That's not very personal tbh.

OP if you're still drafting your PS then I'd recommend leaving the intro until you've written the rest.

If you've written everything else and are just struggling with an opening then it often helps to structure is as past, present future: why you first got into a subject, what you've done so far to get more into it and what you're looking forward to getting into in the future. That way it stays personal to you, focused on your subject and talks about things you've DONE and not what you CLAIM.
'I am interested in studying xxxx BECAUSE ....'

You not need clever/cheesy/'silly teenage' intros or conclusions.
This isnt a bit of Creative Writing for your School Mag. Just answer the question.
