How to make an effort?

mods this is anon as people know me from life on here.

Anyway, I go to the gym 4 times a week in my spare time as I need to keep fit for netball but there are a few boys about my age who I sometimes chat to and one I like, he doesn't like me but I still care what he thinks. How can I possibly make an effort when I wear baggy tracksuit pants and a tracksuit top everytime I go? I even wear the same clothes lol as I only have 1 tracksuit, I mean I do wash them after Ive been but will he think im a bit dirty? Ive been going for 2 years and if I suddenly change my clothes and wear make up he might think something. How do I go about making an effort when im a sweaty mess?

i dont see why you should make the effort. given the situation he would expect you to look that way and you would look odd all dressed up.
try and see him outside of those situations

I know I don't mean a massive effort but how could I look better
wear a tight top, wear abit of make up when you do go to the gym... not loads though, just a subtle amount
Look, a majority of people go to the gym to work out, thats it, they go there to get results. Most people i know don't go to the gym to socialise and everyone looks in a bit of a state most of the time. Personally, if i've been doing HIIT i'm drenched in sweat, i probably smell to other people, i'm very red faced, looking pretty knackered and tired. Sometimes i go to the gym early after a heavy night out, i'm hungover, i haven't shaved, and i haven't showered (what's the point unless i smell disgustingly bad?). Does this bother me if the hot chic over the other side of the stretching area thinks i smell dodgy and look rough? No, chances are she's not looking her best either unless she's been sitting on the weights bench waiting to stalk me, in her best going out clothes and make up (which doesn't happen that much) and we're forgetting that she's there to workout, not pull.

try and see him outside of those situations

Just ask the guy out. If you go to the gym to work out, you will never look your best and, tbh, i don't care what other people think i look like, people who really know me, outside of the gym, know differently. I've walked through central Bristol, with a friend, covered in paint, oil, syrup, egg, flour, oats, ketchup, fish guts, etc, i got some funny looks, but i can assure you, most of my friends know that i don't do that every day of the week and overlooked it.

The only way to look your best is outside of the gym environment, whether its on a date or you stalk the guy and find out where he likes going and then superimpose yourself on his surroundings. If it scares him off at least it conveys your commitment, maybe that will turn his head?
Only wear mascara...or a little bit of eyeliner and if he says anything, just say you were on a date or you just came back from meeting your friends and you didnt get a chance to take it off...

But to be honest, anything more than mascara is a bit overdoing it for the gym....
