These are good guides on how the process works and what you need to do.

Imagine the situation from SFEs point of view and dont forget the importance of independent evidence to support your claim. Medical evidence is very helpful.

Hi Hb1603xx,

If a student has to repeat a year of study, or had to suspend/withdraw from their course, we would use their previous study to calculate their future entitlement to funding.

You may want us to consider your extenuating circumstances when making this calculation, also known as their Compelling Personal Reasons (CPR).

You need to send a letter detailing their CPR along with any evidence of your mitigating circumstances.

We recommend the letter is on headed paper, is signed and dated, confirms what happened, when this took place, how it affected your studies and/or the reason why you could not continue with your course.

Photocopies of all evidence can be accepted and this evidence can include;

Medical evidence from a GP on headed paper

Letter from HEP on headed paper

Letter from Social Services on headed paper

Letter from clergy or professional person on headed paper

Death Certificate and/or

A Birth Certificate

This will be reviewed on a case by case basis by an assessor, if accepted can award an additional year of fee support.

Thanks Rona
