Parents call me everyday at uni

It gets tiring, I love my parents and all that but calling everyday is wayyyy too much. At first I hoped that it's a first term at uni kind of thing then they'll stop, that they were nervous and scared of sending me to different country to go to uni but after a while would stop, BUT NO. I wish we could talk once a week or so, it wouldn't feel so mandatory, I tried to suggest them that maybe they could stop calling me so often and they got upset by the idea. Does anyone have experience with this?

Yeah funnily enough I get what your on about. When I started last September my mum rang me everyday, which at times when I was trying to socialise with new people was quite tricky. We are very close so I understood why and appreciated it. In the end I just broke it in gently by not picking up everyday. Sounds awful, but it really gave us the space we needed to adjust to a new living situation with me away from home.

I would just stop picking up the phone unless they threatened to stop my allowance :/
Maybe you could text them instead?

What can you even talk about every day? Surely there's only so much to discuss within 24 hours

Yeah I've been ignoring them a bit and telling them that I'm really busy and it seems to be working! They kinda do drop hints about how I should call them more often and that I should call them without an occasion, not only when I need something (even though I obviously do)

Honestly I'm not even sure, it's just useless chitchat like, did you eat, what did you do today, did you have a lot of lectures today and etc

so sweet

just tell them you have work to do and you don’t have time to chat, it will be hard for them to get used to at first but they will eventually be ok with only calling every now and then
