How to follow someone without them knowing

A few weeks ago I got drunk and followed this girl who I used to know on Instagram, however, when I woke up the next day I remembered what I did and quickly unfollowed her. Problem is she followed me later that day and has since liked a few of my photos. Now it looks like she followed me first. My question is, is there a way that I could follow her without her knowing or will she always get a notification no matter what?

Otherwise it'll be quite awkward.

you can't follow someone on IG without them getting a notif, the only way they won't notice is if they're getting spammed with follows (unlikely) and you slip through .

I'm curious - why would it be awkward? Can't you just say you unfollowed her by mistake?
