Graduate studying Access to HE (science)- do I have a shot?

I am currently studying an Access to HE Diploma in Science (Chemistry, Physics and Biology). I have recently applied to study radiography for 2023, and I am considering withdrawing my application to try for a place on a Medicine course at university.

I am trying to feel out my potential to earn a place on a medicine course, given my academic background;
I am 23 years old and hold a 2:1 BA degree. I have three non-science A Levels (BCC), and have a C in GCSE maths, Bs in English lang and lit, and Bs in sciences.
I am on track to achieve 39 credits at distinction and 6 credits at merit on my access course.
My plan would be to work within healthcare for the following year, and apply to study medicine for the 2024 entry, and obviously sit the required exams for medical school.

With these points in consideration, would I be considered a suitable candidate for the course? I care dearly about my future career within the NHS- however, I wouldn’t like to withdraw my application from radiography if I stood no chance against students applying directly from A-Levels.

Many thanks!

Access to science is often treated differently to access to medicine. Many universities are incredibly picky about which, if any, access courses they will accept. So you need to do some research there.

I know one person who was applying the same time as me who was sold a place on an A2M course who swore blind that she would be accepted. I knew from my careful scrutiny of the entry requirements of the places that she was targeting that she wouldn’t be. I think there was maybe one, perhaps two universities in the country which would accept her. I had a massive argument with her and eventually emailed the universities themselves (which she wouldn’t do!) to get proof. Only then did she decide to suck it up and do a distance learning/self study A level option like myself.

the lesson is: be very sure what your qualification will be worth before continuing but also be very careful discontinuing unless you’re absolutely sure you want to do this.

Where did you do your AHE in science online? Can you recomend the college? Have you been satisfied with their teaching methods?
