What do i need in semester 2 final year for overall first?

Hi everyone,
Sorry, vant seem to figure out what i need for overall first (my mathematics although good, maybe i not good sometimes haha).
So first year - 35% ( i got overall 75.38)
So final year - 65% (45/120 credits - i got 76.67) but remainder: 45 credits dissertation, 15 + 15 modules)

What do i need for 70%/first?
Thank you.

This looks confusing.

Are the grades in the first year counted towards your final grade?
Are you doing a 2 year degree? If not, what are your grades for the second year and why isn't there a weighting for it?

Answer the above, and I should be able to confirm what it would take to get a first.

Congrats on the grades; they look impressive irrespective of the subject. What is your subject by the way?

I was supposed to say 2nd year not first year. (Nope, first year not counting to degree - 3 year course).
Thank you ! I'm doing chemistry.

Sounds difficult, but interesting (looking to do something similar). What is the degree like?

Using Final grade = weight1*grade1 + weight2*grade2...
Final grade = 0.35*75.38 + 0.65[(45/120)*76.67 + (45/120)x + (15/120)y + (15/120)z]
70 = 26.383 +18.6883125 + 0.24375x + 0.08125y + 0.08125z
24.9286875 = 0.24375x + 0.08125y + 0.08125z

This is where it gets complicated. Since you don't know the grades of the remaining dissertation and 15 credit modules, it's a bit difficult to specify.
Assuming you score 60% in your dissertation...
10.3036875 = 0.08125y + 0.08125z
126.81461538461538461538461538462 = y+z, or 63.407307692307692307692307692308 each.
In other words, if you scored 2:1 in your disseration, you need an average of 63% in your remaining 15 credit modules

Assuming you got 60% in both of your 15 credit units...
15.1786875 = 0.24375x
x = 62.271538461538461538461538461538 or a little above 62%.

If you are looking for a standard grade average in the remaining modules (irrespective of the weightings)...
24.9286875 = 0.24375x + 0.08125y + 0.08125z
24.9286875 = 0.40625(x+y+z)
Average grade = 61.362923076923076923076923076923

In short, if you're aiming for something a little above 60% in your remaining units, you would be able to secure a 1st class overall.
Having said that, it's a bit of a cop out if you try to secure a grade less than 65% in any of the remaining modules. I would aim for 1st class in the remaining modules just to do yourself justice, but you really don't need to stress that much now if you don't want to.

I've really enjoyed chemistry. I would highly recommend, especially if you enjoy labs! :smile:
