The Student Room Group

i got offers from 3 unis

Hi guys i applied to product design and Lincoln, uwe and manmet offered me a place.

From the guardian, lincoln is the second in product design so I’m leaning toward them. Does anyone have any thoughts on Product design at Lincoln?

Also I’m SE Asian and an international student. I haven’t seen a lot of Asian or SE Asian from uol so I’m a bit worried about being a minority.

I actually like uwe and manmet too so it’s really hard for me to choose😭😭 send help

Okay, first thing is do you have plans for what you want to do with your degree?
a) Are you thinking of staying in the UK?
b) Are you thinking of going into industry? Anything specifically you're aiming for at the moment?

I always advise people against looking at rankings, because for the average undergraduate course, a university's position on a league table doesn't translate into the actual education you receive.

Third: Bristol and Manchester are significantly larger cities than Lincoln, you may have preferences about the type of place you want to live? Manchester is a really big city compared to the other two; Bristol is pretty big, but with a serious student housing issue; and I'll confess I know very little about Lincoln.

Something I do know, is someone who can advise on what to look for in product design courses. And that's @CoolCavy

Thanks for your advice! It’s been really hard for me to make a decision, my mum really likes Lincoln somehow so she keeps saying that it looks like a good university.

The thing I’m concerned about choosing Lincoln is that they gave me an offer without even asking or saying anything about my portfolio. I feel like by doing that, they “might be” in need of more money so they just giving out offers and also since I’m an international student I have to pay a lot more tuition fees. Manmet on the other hand, was the first to ask for my portfolio. For UWE, first they asked for my portfolio, but then they changed their mind and put me in their pre-sessional course.

Also I don’t think the size of the city will be a problem to me because I lived in Bangkok until 12, and from 13-18 I studied about in New Zealand so I kind of have experiences living in the urban and rural. So as long as the city is not as small and quiet as countryside of New Zealand, I think I’ll survive.

Sorry I forgot to answer your question.
A) I ‘m not sure yet at the moment but i’m sure that i won’t return to thailand for work. I’m considering other countries too.
B) Again I don’t have any plan yet. I might get a master’s degree before start working.

UWE and MMU offered me a 4 years with placement year course, which was actually my preference. This is one of the reasons why I’m changing my mind from Lincoln since they don’t provide placement year course. I want to graduate with 1 year experience.

I agree. I talked many ppl and they also adviced me to choose somewhere else not Lincoln.

Thank you so much for your advice. It helps with my decision a lot☺️
Hello,

I go to Lincoln myself and hope I can help in your decision!

First of all, the University of Lincoln has a large international and ethnic minority population. We also have a specialist international student department which hold virtual events in the lead up to September for potential students, I'll leave the email here if you have any queries [email protected]

For more course specific information, I'd recommend speaking to one of the current product design students, you can do that by going onto the course website page and it should pop up in the corner. Hope this helps!
