Russell Group important or not?

I'm struggling with choosing a university for law - I've narrowed it down to Goldsmiths University of London and the University of York. I have an unconditional offer from Goldsmiths and prefer the course and the areas it specialises in, but I prefer York's campus, and I don't know whether going to a Russell Group Uni helps my chances in law because it's a competitive industry. Where should I go lol?

Russel group doesn't matter. A future employer will only look at your degree, not where you got it from. Someone from a Russel Group university won't have any priority over someone else

This is incredibly poor information. Given this is for Law, attempting to get training contracts from the top employers places a HUGE emphasis on the institution.

Everyone would like the toot the horn that university doesn't matter, but in a prestige-driven industry such as Law it is pivotal in securing internships since top universities with alumni at these firms will have networking and extra-curricular clubs connected with industry as a result.

Goldsmiths and York are on opposites sides of the rankings, if you can secure York, take it and run.
As the above user says - firm York.

Do you have any other offers?
If you are serious about pursuing law then id go to York, this is one of the few industries where university does make a significant impact getting your foot in the door.

yes but its another super new course so I'm focusing on these two - Goldsmiths is super new so there's not much data but the opportunities seem really amazing and with it being in london I thought there may be more employment and networking opportunities. Do you think location matters in this case?

As others have said, York is definitely the better choice. For Law, university prestige does matter and there is a significant difference between the two universities. This outweighs any location advantage Goldsmiths could give you. Ultimately it's your choice though

No problem, and congratulations on your offers! The reason I'd say the location advantage doesn't matter much is because a lot of the competitive companies in London will be targeting higher ranked London universities like LSE, UCL and King's anyway so I doubt you'd be missing out on that. York is a great uni
