Applying to Sunderland medicine

Hi, i’m looking to apply to Sunderland medicine after attending the open day and am unsure about what the student experience is like. The uni is close to home, which is great, though i would love to live away. I’ve heard that the benefit of applying to Sunderland is the low UCAT cutoff, but mine is 2940 and my gcse’s are good. I’m wondering what people’s experience at sunderland is like from a students perspective.
Thank you!

Just because there’s a low UCAT cut off doesn’t mean you’re ineligible to apply with a high score! If it’s what you want, you apply. Sounds like there are a lot of benefits for you personally in applying. You’d also be eligible for Newcastle as well with that score (I think, don’t quote me on that).

YouTube search Med With Tem. She vlogs about her time at Sunderland. You’ll get a sense of the student experience from that.

Could someone please tell me if the Casper is compulsory and is it done via Sunderland or is it independent from the uni? I keep reading conflicting rules. 🙏

CASPer has been voluntary until now and not used for actual shortlisting. It is run independently, but you have to be put in for it by an organisation (Sunderland med school in this case)

Hi there,

Ive just picked up this thread and can see its been a while but hope I can still help!
I am a fourth year at sunderland currently and I have to say it is beyond amazing! The staff are all so lovely and they are really willing to help with anything that you need.
I also think the general university is really supportive, there are loads of ways they can help with wellbeing, finance, any disability support and more.

I really hope this helps, and hope to see you in Sunderland,

Ellen
