Personal trainer for students

I am wondering do students feel like investing in a personal trainer to lose weight, get strong etc. feel as though it is worth the money? Is it something that is worth investing in even if you're short on cash?

Not really worth it as all the information you need is available on the internet, but if your purpose of having a trainer is motivation and accountability then it might be worth it.

Hi @KimberleyInP,

Ive thought about this many of times throughout my time at university. I've thought at times where I'm struggling to feel good about myself that, maybe, I need a PT or, some strict sort of scheme to help me to feel good. This just isn't the case.

University can already be stressful and sometimes it's easy for us girls to take it out on ourselves. This took me a long time to consider and realise, I don't need these added extras to help me keep fit! I can do that easily by listening to my body, taking it for walks/runs, keeping a simple calorie deficit and still include eating the foods I love from time to time! I find I am more comfortable working out at home, hula hooping, skipping etc. The idea of a personal trainer is great! But I can't justify the price and added consumption of time it takes when I can get the same benefits by keeping on top of the 'little things'. For example, I feel my best when I drink at least 1.5L of water a day, do my 10k steps and ensure I eat enough! Technically the little watch on my wrist is my personal trainer by keeping track of this for me  So, if I was going to recommend buying anything to help you keep on track of physical and mental health whilst at uni, I would recommend getting some sort of fitness watch (doesn't have to be too expensive). The simpler the better, that's how I think of it! Now I have more time for myself without wirrying about missing appointments at the gym or wasting my money whilst living away from home.

Hope this helps and wishing you all the best,
Ellie
I am a pt and exercise referral specialist and from all my years of research, I can say that there is a huge amount of misinformation on the internet regarding nutrition and exercise so please if anything, steer clear of it because a lot of stuff I see just doesn't add up to the science! I actually left university midway through my second year to get my health on track. I was very overweight and suffering from a chronic condition and paying for a pt was definitely on my mind as I was clueless. My partner who is a PT too helped me and although the help was free, it was the best thing I ever did. Having pt sessions isn't just paying for exercise and nutrition advice, it sets you up for life and helps you form healthy habits which help you both physically and mentally and prevents the development of health conditions further down the line. So would I say it's worth it? Yes definitely as you can't put a price on health. It depends how much you can afford but me and my partner offer online coaching at a cheaper rate and are quite flexible so that might be an option for you if you're short on cash.
