University choices

Hi!

The internal deadline for my UCAS application is early December and I'm struggling with my university choices. So far, the only uni that I'm set on is Herts. For context I'm interested in studying Graphic design and illustration, and I'm currently in Year 13 doing Art and Design (Graphics Pathway), Maths and English Language.

What I like about Herts is the fact that I can switch from Graphic design to Illustration in the first semester, and how close it is to home. I'm considering Lougborough but it's a bit far, and I'd prefer somewhere closer. I've had a look at some universities in London as well like CSM.

It's stressing me out quite a bit bc I have mocks in about a week and I've still got to do my portfolio.

Just apply to Herts by your school's deadline and then take your time to research and add some additional choices by the end of January.
it might be worth looking into visual communication/communication design type courses if your interests cross illustration and GD

It's also worth putting in applications for local foundation diploma courses too - if you're applying straight from A level then your portfolio is going to be compared against applicants who have A level plus a FAD so it might be that you don't get as many offers as you hope - having a backup option to take a FAD after A levels is a really good plan. Plus it might help you figure out whether illustration or GD is for you.
