Do I have a right to not contribute?

I contributed to a bday gift at work for a colleague.

However when my bday came, my colleague never said "happy birthday to me"

My colleague's teammate who I also know, never said "happy bday to me" either although we work close together.

None of them said "happy bday"

But they both expect me to contribute to a gift

Should I ignore this conversation?
You are under no obligations to contribute to anyone birthday presents if you don't want to.

Maybe the only contributions you might consume putting something in is either for a wedding gift or leaving present if you have worked with the person's for long time.
Of course you don't have to - you aren't contractually obliged to do so.

However there may be social reasons that you may be incentivised to engage with that.

Also it may be the reason they didn't wish you happy birthday is they didn't know it was your birthday.

These birthday gifts in the workplace are a bit of a nightmare for multiple reasons. Worth avoiding if at all possible. You are of course under no obligation to contribute. This said sometimes you do need to be a bit canny in how you invest in your work image
