Predicted grades vs entry requirements (Mechanical Engineering)

I keep seeing lots of people with A*A*A* applying to ABB courses etc and was just wondering wether it’s recommended to be ABOVE entry requirements rather than on them? Does this alter your chances at an offer?

Is applying to Edinburgh AAA-ABB, Birmingham AAB and Exeter AAB-ABB for Mechanical Engineering with the predicted grades of AAB a bad idea?

The usual advice is that your 5 choices should be :
1 or 2 just above your predicted grades.
2 or 3 at your predicted grades.
1 choice below your predicted grades

Just be careful about 'grade ranges' like ABB-BBB.
Often the lower grade set is only for contextual offers or those taking specific A level subjects.
Always check with the Uni to ask exactly what these ranges mean - before you apply.
