But want to go to your firm uni on results day

No. You do not get to pick between your firm and insurance choice on results day.
If you meet the grade requirements of your firm choice (or if you just miss them and they decide to overlook that fact), then they confirm your place and your insurance choice vanishes. If you were to then decline the place at your firm choice, you'd end up in Clearing.
You'd only receive a place at your insurance choice if your firm choice opted not to confirm your place (because you didn't meet the offer grades) and your insurance choice were happy to accept you.
