Who else's parents turn off the wifi at night?

My parents turn off the wifi from the switch near the outlet which is in their room. Id be randomly chatting with my friends and the wifi cuts out 😒. Does anyone know a way around it?? I really cant live without wifi 😅

No porn for you then.
My parents used to but thankfully stopped.

Only thing I can recommend is download programmes on iPlayer, channel 4 player or itv player to watch after the wifi has gone off.
Just lol. is there a family PC and its in the living room?

Happens where I live. Just saves power and people trying to get on to our network.

I'm baffled that they actually have the router in the their room.

Just buy one of those 4G dongle things with a few GB of data on it.

Where do you live, that you have to turn your WiFi off to prevent people from getting into it? :lolwut:

I wonder why they only need to turn it off at night in order to prevent intruders. Do wifi thieves only come out after dark in their neighbourhood?

Network equipment is meant to be left on 24/7 and should only be powered off if you need to restart it, or if you're leaving it off for a long period (i.e. several days). Switching it on and off daily will shorten the life of the device, meaning it's potentially more green to leave it running than it is to unplug it to save a pittance of electricity. Rumour has it that power cycling your router too much can lower Internet speeds too.
No where dodgy. I think my dad just likes to not haven't it on to save money. He is a Yorkshire man after all.
Seems sensible to me.

No they don't, its not in their room. Seems a bit strange to turn it off lol I usually watch Netflix before I sleep so it would be so damn annoying.

M8, my parents don't even have to try because the wifi doesn't even reach my room mostly!
We only have it on whenever someone needs internet access on the laptop/computer :frown:

Then again, I don't even have a half-decent phone to even Whatsapp on in bed, so I'm not so fussed. I've gotten used to living without WiFi. I'm a caveman. I know :troll:
I use the wifi at night so they can't turn it off. Ours is on 24/7.

Totally agree. Turning the router off is a newbie mistake. If you want your network secure, just build a Faraday cage around your house :colonhash:
my mum used to :colonhash: but i told her that i study at night and need to the WIFI to 'aid my studies' :yep:
