what inspired you to wanna do med?

critical studies are ok for me

we have the option to choose RS as a gcse, but i took the exam privately outside of school in y9 and got an A*. Therefore, i thought it would be pointless to have another RS gcse so i didn't take it. Everyone at my school has to do core RE but there are no exams or homework for it.

Well at first, it was due to money, as when I was around 7(or 11, I can't even remember) I wanted to (still do) move Canada and so I searched "highest paid jobs"(or something like that) and an ophthalmologist was one of them.
However, as I actually did research on ophthalmology and different specialities within it, I actually became interested in ophthalmology and medicine as whole and would like to specialise in either glaucoma surgery or neuro-ophthalmology later on in life, because I think our eyesight is precious and I want help as many people possible to retain theirs.

So, what steered you onto the path of medicine?

bruh, you year 10s are really proactive, didn't even think about my gcses until mid year 11 -- actually thats a lie because I sat my chemistry exam in year 10 but you get my point. Never think you're not 'clever enough' or people are 'more clever than you' because overcoming that doubt is the first obstacle in itself; its more important than revision. good luck to you all! its kinda tough not to put yourself down, especially if your in a grammar school like i am. but imma just try and get the best possible grades, and i know that if i try and acc not procrastinate then it'll be enough.

that's so cool! as a person who knows the struggles of having poor eyesight, that would be an amazing thing to do!

why I want to do medicine, well all of my mums side are doctors and they are big inspirations to me as we’re all so close.

also bc my grandfather was really ill with lung cancer that wasn’t found till it was at the last stage. this really upset me, and considering I was only 8, I was so driven to find a way to help others.

most of that time was weekends spent in hospital wards which I found fascinating, even though it smelt kinda weird

another thing was when there was a patient who had passed away in the room next door to my grandfathers and it just kinda shook me tbh. I could just hear people shouting and sobbing and I just wanted to do something but I couldn’t.

now however I’ve become interested in mental health as it’s being finally raised in society as an actual illness. this I’m thankful for, as before I was just throwing around words like anxiety and depression without actually knowing what it meant, and making triggered jokes etc.

it wasn’t till y9 when there was an anxiety attack literally every week at my school, where we had to look out for each other bc the government can’t teach us about the basics of mental health. it was a scary experience, but it just made me even more passionate about it, as well as caring for people.

and the fact that you can travel all the way round the world and never be out of a job, bc people are bound to get ill some way or another

Hii in similar situationFor igcse i take:Maths (amazing teacher, always had a knack for maths), Biology (had an awfulll teacher but this year got a fab on, Chemistry (always had a brill teacher), Physics (great teacher, having a baby :/ so will have a new one in jan), English lit (great teach but im just not that good at it, am trying to improve over half term), English lang (again good teacher but not great at it however am defo better than lit), Geography (got a knew fab teach), History (awful teach ( although there is talk of a new one...), Spanish (amazing teacher from y7), Computer science (good teach) and Further maths (amaze teach)All are edexcel apart from computer science which is cieI want to study medicine at cambridge too- been my dream for as long as i can remember.
