Eating high fiber foods like bran cereals and brown bread and plenty vegetables will certainly help you get the iron levels up again .Best thing I am afraid to say to you is to take the iron tablets you been told to take .

I felt the same as you and was told to eat bran food more as it will help and a course of iron tablets for three months ,
There's time I get tired again and its down to low iron in my body and I get prescribed the iron tablets and get blood test to check things regular.

I do work with NHS on busy hospital wards with 12 hours shifts and this don't help I know but I feel better than before with doing what my GP told me to do.

Go and make an appointment for your doctor as there maybe something else apart from the anemic wrong with you and a blood test may help resolve things or at worst referred to see a specialist at the hospital .

I know you said that you don't want to hassle the doctor but I think on this occasion you should go and see them okay

Get better soon as well .

But why? it's your body, aren't you concerned, over the side effects, as in doesn't it bother you? I have thalassemia which I mean does lead to anaemia so idk where I'm going with this but, if I fainted a lot I'd be mugged off and go to my GP aha

i just find the whole thing annoying..

For vitamin D I'd say try to get as much time in the sunlight - i know it's a pain, but it should help. Also, salmon, mushrooms, mackerel, tuna, tofu, soy milk, and soy yogurt and orange juice with added vitamin D should help if eaten/drank ( but idk if you like any of these- i'm a picky eater too and had a vitamin D deficiency, my mum bought me this small vitamin D spray thing let me show you a picture)

Spoiler

With iron deficiency try eating lots of meats, drink orange juice, eat strawberries, oranges, red peppers and foods high in Vitamin C i guess, since it helps with absorbing iron.

Other than that i'm not sure what to suggest sorry

what sun? i'm in the uk, haha.
andd. i'm vegetarian. and i hate mushrooms and soy products and tofu, eh. will try eating more vit c rich foods tho, thanks.

No worries

Bran cereals & brown bread has a certain amount of iron & protein in them that will help hopefully build up your iron levels. Fruit and vegetables are full of goodness like spinach and broccoli .

But do try and take the iron tablets okay after a meal or during it as it will at least help you .
I know that no one can make you goto your doctor but at least seek there advice more on this.

Look up on NHS choices website about anemia / anemic as full of useful information on this .

Hmm I'm sure you can look up diet plans, and what to eat when you're on the medication, and also I'm sure there are plenty of NHS guidelines on what to do when you feel cold, or feel like you're going to faint. I'm sure doctor google can save the day, if you don't want the hassle of booking an appt, and seeing a doctor.

so i'm anemic and have some deficiencies, incl a vitamin d deficiency. admittedly, i've kinda been ignoring the issue, i just couldn't be bothered taking supplements, kept forgetting to ec. but i passed out again yesterday, and it turns out my iron levels have dropped again (just a little bit). now i'm supposed to take 'ferrous fumarate' 210mg x3 a day instead of the otc iron pills i bought last time + vitamin d 4000 once a day.

the trouble is, there's no way i can continue taking them - i threw up earlier today and i'm still nauseous af. it's definitely because of the supplements. it's like my body's rejecting them? what am i supposed to do? is there any way i could get the same dose of iron and vit d from food, e.g. fresh spinach juice. tbh i'm a picky eater, and my diet is pretty bland so maybe i making some minor changes to it would be enough (instead of taking supplements)? i typically eat low sugar plain cereal for breakfast w/milk or plain yogurt + some toast or fruit (i feel lightheaded when i don't have a big breakfast, lol, don't judge me), then i usually have some fruit and veg smoothie plus dinner, usually something with lots of veggies like a nice salad, wraps, or vegetarian burgers, pasta or pizza. on most days i'll also have a snack, either some fruit or yogurt or occasionally trash food like ice cream/some chocolate.

any ideas? i'm tired of this **** tbh, i'm always cold and tired and just want my iron and vit d levels to return normal so that i can get everyone off my back, my boyfriend won't stop *****ing about my eating habits and weight even though i'm perfectly healthy otherwise.

Hey! I'm also on ferrous fumarate and I know the doctors usually tell you to take it on an empty stomach (for better absorption) but I just could not handle the nausea and started taking it with food instead and it has become so much more tolerable. Try that?

You could also try incorporating more spinach in your salads and try tossing in some Tofu (I'm sure you said you're vegan) and this can help. Most leafy vegetables are loaded with spinach so you can make yourself a nice salad bowl with a range of leafy greens. Nuts are also a good source of iron so you can also throw in some cashews (if you don't have a nut allergy). But yes, making dietary changes definitely helps. If you get sick of salads you could even put in a load of spinach in a blender with a few fruits and veggies and have it in the form of a smoothie. These are all the things I do to maintain my iron levels

EDIT: Just read the thread properly and you said you hate Tofu. Just ignore me!

@Nutritionist could you please help the OP with any suggestions on how they can incorporate more iron in their diet? I've given the basics but I'm sure you're more knowledgeable on this. Sorry I keep tagging you in this stuff but you're so helpful and I also have the same issue  also I think OP is a vegetarian.

Follow instruction on the tablets as probably take one in morning after breakfast and one at night time and generally should feel better within two to three weeks as I had my energy back after that period of time but completed the course of iron tablets.

Hope you do feel better soon okay .xx

Yes that's absolutely correct about taking iron tablets on a empty stomach as your body adsorbs more iron.
But if it upset the stomach then try taking it with food .

Side effects are nausea, sickness, and therefore should talk to a pharmacist or GP about symptoms .
One of the reasons why your body is rejecting the supplements you are taking is because they are not derived from a natural source. As a result, your body essentially treats it like a foreign substance, and thus it rejects it. I recommend you take the Women's Multi Gummies from mykind Organics (search the Garden of Life UK store online for this). The supplement I am advising you to take only contains organic and natural substances. The cost of the supplement is £24.75 for 30 servings, or 120 gummies. By taking 1 serving a day, which is 4 gummies, it will cost you £0.83 per day to take, rounded off to 2 decimal places. If it costs you £0.83 a day, it will cost you £5.81 per week to take. I consider that to be affordable, especially since the supplement is, in my view, the best in the market.

Now to cover the health aspect of the supplement. According to the product label, it gives you the total amount of Vitamin D you require in a day. With regards to your iron intake, try having 50g of chia seeds a day. According to Cronometer, 50g of chia seeds gives you 8.2mg of iron, which is enough for your daily recommended intake. I recommend you buy your chia seeds from Planet Organic. They cost £4.50 for a bag of 500g's worth, and so it will cost you £0.45 per 50g serving per day. Over a week, that is £3.15.The multivitamin supplement I recommended also gives you a lot of other vitamins and minerals. I believe I have given you a credible solution to your vitamin deficiency. The supplement comes in gummies, which taste nice as they have natural sources of sweetness. Be sure to read the product label to know exactly what is in it.

In general, I recommend you eliminate all sources of processed foods. We live in a society where it seems like convenience comes over health, which I find absurd. You can put a price on a packet of biscuits, but not on a human life. Try drinking only water too. I have only been drinking water since the age of 15 (I am 20 now), and that at 5l a day minimum. My urine is always clear, indicating that I am always hydrated. I recommend you try having 2l of water a day for a week. If your urine is consistently clear throughout the day, stick to 2l. If not, try increasing it to 3l a day for the next week. Keep on increasing the water intake until your urine is consistently clear. Also, make sure you factor in your activity level with how much water you need to drink. The more active you are, the more water you lose through sweat, and so you have to replace this water. I hope the advice I have given has helped. If you want any more help, be sure to message me...somewhere.

In that instance, search Vegan D3 on the Garden of Life store and you will see a chewable that contains 2000IU per tablet. Simply have two of those a day. Since it comes in a pack of 30 chewables, a serving for you would be 2 tablets, and so it would contain a total of 15 servings. Since it costs £13, that means you get 15 servings (in your case) for £13. As a result, each serving costs £0.87 per day. In a week, that would be £6.09. I hope that helps.
I was on the same ferrous fumate dosage absolutely hated it, gave me the worst headaches in the entire world. Lasted a week and gave up. I'm still alive so. Apparently there's a liquid solution that's better for you and actually works with minimal side effects.

Can't comment on the vitamin d as never taken it.

I also have tried those thing where the vitamin is in a drink and that helps too obviously not prescription strength though.
