Anyone else here suffer from TMJ disorder?

I have suffered this on and off for years. For me its stress that mainly causes it. I don't grit my teeth but I clench my back teeth together and facial muscles when stressed and tbh most of the time I don't realise I am doing it until the TMJ pain fully kicks in :frown:

I am currently going through another phrase of TMJ pain atm as I have been ill lately and stressed too. I have had the pain for a week and some days are better than others but I have barely slept for the entire week which isn't helping.

Just want to know if anyone else suffers from this and what tips you have to deal with the pain.

Sorry to hear you have tmj. I have it although mines caused more by my hypermobility. Have you thought of getting a mouth guard for night?

TMJ is horrible :frown: its one of those pains you don't realise how bad it is until you have it. Sorry to hear you have it too. Yeah I have a generic mouth guard from the chemist but it didnt help much. I am getting a special made one from the dentist but that will take a few weeks to get made. The doc gave me naproxen on Monday and touch wood, I have been pain free since

Ah I hope you stay pain free
Does your jaw lock?
Ask your dentist to refer you to a maxfacs department. There are many treatment options

Yeah sometimes but not too often but it does click a lot. I only get the pain, locking and clicking on my right side.

My brother and sister both have this and I suspect it's what I have too. But I've had months of no problem. I only seem to have a problem when I yawn. :frown:

Damn pain has came back again but thankfully nowhere near as bad as it was last week. Got the dentist tomorrow so hopefully I will be one step closer to getting proper treatment for this

Make sure s/he refers you to a maxfacs department. They'll treat you much more appropriately

They've sorted my TMJ out much more than my dentist did, because they actually seemed to know what I was talking about as well.

My dentist has referred me to a specialist at my local hospital but said it will be months before I get an appointment so I have a mouth guard being made and plenty of naproxen to take until then. Lately I have only been taking 1 or 2 naproxen a week whereas before I got them I was one 8 paracetamol and 3 ibuprofen a day and the pain barely lifted. Naproxen have been a god send.

Yep, have had it ever since I had braces taken off. Annoying random jaw locks, random friction etc.

Does anyone else who has this feel the pain more in their ears or teeth or gums more than the jaw joint? My jaw bone is agony to touch but it always feels like the pain is coming from my ear though I know its just radiating from my jaw. The naproxen is starting to not work as well on the pain now which sucks :frown:

Random question but does anyones TMJ cause vertigo? I am currently going through another TMJ flare up and my vertigo has came back.
