15 years old, looking for a job. Any tips?

Hey everyone. Now I know that it is going to be hard to find a job, especially in retail but I have managed to find some retail companies that employ people under the age of 16. For example WHSmith employ people uner the age of 16, I called up my local ones but they said that they can't employ 15 year olds despite it saying on the careers site that they employ 13+. I have tried my local newsagents and got rejected :frown: I tried phoning other local WHSmith and out of the 4 I called only 1 answered. I don't really have a CV, should I make one? How? Any tips? Also is there any other jobs I could do? I don't really know any family members that have their own business so I cannot really do that. I sound so desperate... please help! :bawling::bawling::bawling::bawling::bawling::bawling:

Are you sure it won't get in the way of your studies?
If you're still doing your GCSEs there will be nothing on your CV except what you write about yourself.

It won't if I just use my time wisely. During term time 2 hours for school, 5-7, then saturday maybe 9-5. Holidays 9-5 monday-saturday and sunday 2-4. I can still get a job though, even though I haven't done my GCSE's yet? Right?

Spoiler

Well the fact is, demand for jobs is far greater than supply so employers are more likely to take on those with gcse's. To beat a candidate for the job who's done his gcse's will be very difficult... unless you're associated with one of the store managers

Okay. I am still going to try but I am gonna have to search for relatives, I am pretty sure some own businesses but most of my relatives don't live in the UK.

Does anyone still have any other suggestions?

You can't work in Retail until you are 16.

I would recommend Trading on Ebay, it's what I did.

Ugh okay. Kinda annoyed WHSmith said they employ 13+...

What do you mean by trading? Did you make stuff or fix stuff then sell it like a little business?
Is this for money or work experience?

I would like to do it for money but it is unlikely since I haven't done my GCSE's yet. So I don't mind doing some work experience, it's just my school doesn't offer it :frown:

Oh Boots? Is it more of a girly job? I tried my best not to sound sexist. Also is it till work or just sorting shelves?

I work at boots and I'd like to argue with you there but it's true. There's like one other guy there who isn't a manager and he's well on his way to becoming one.

Yeh I am against sexism... but I just find it weird in a situation like that. And I heard Boots don't really do that. WHSmith says it on their site though and I tried once and they said no... still frustrated that they claim to employ 13-15 when they don't :frown:
I think at 15 all you can really do is a paper round or maybe like cleaning for other people. For a proper job you're best of waiting whilst your 16.

Try restaurants/cafes (preferably the smaller ones rather than the chain ones) as some of those take on under 16's.

I bought things, like watches, etc for cheap. Then Priced them up and sold them.

If you want some methods for Online money making, check out hackforums.com and look in the money making section.

I'll have a look. I had a youtube channel before as a little job but I kinda lost my audience.
yeah defintley try local pubs, resteraunts etc, big chain companies are more selective and will choose those over 16 and with gcses, it might not be the best pay but a first job is never perfect

You're really going to struggle to get a decently paid job at the age of 15. If you're really mature then you could try asking to be a waitress or something at local pubs/restaurants but most places don't hire. I would not go for a retail place until you are 16 because they will always choose people who are older, despite being able to probably get away with paying you very little. You should definitely write a CV with personal information, Education (although at 15 you probably don't have any qualifications but mention where you go to school, predicted grades, what subjects you take etc) and hobbies and interests. References could be your tutor at school, one of your favourite teachers etc, but don't be worried if you can't fill up much of the CV because you're young and don't have many qualifications. You could put appropriate skills you have in the CV but don't forget to write a cover letter saying why you are suitable for the job you're applying for, your skills and qualities etc.

This was the story of my life when I was 15. I applied for EVERYTHING but got rejected. In the end, I decided to do private tutoring! I advertised as a maths tutor in local news agents and got a few regular clients!
