Will uni's accept a reference from an old colleague???

Will uni's accept a reference from an old colleague that now has a different job and a new work email?????

My choices say my references have to have work emails and it cant be hotmail etc.

I'm a mature student so literally the only person I feel comfortable asking is my colleague from my current job who left at the end of last year so they obviously don't have the company email anymore. When uni's say work email do they mean it has to match where I currently work or can it be any work email????

I also do consider them a friend now (which UCAS says you cant use) but they were a colleague first and we're not that close so would that be okay?! so confused
