Lifting will help you build muscle, as well as just generally getting stronger, but ultimately if you want to get bigger, your energy intake needs to exceed your energy expenditure – i.e. eat more than you burn. Shakes/smoothies are a great way to help you do this, but obviously not the only way. Make sure that what you are eating includes all the food groups so you're getting all the macro- and micronutrients your body needs. It's not necessary to obsessively track calories, just eat more and if your weight is increasing, your arms are looking a bit bigger, and overall you're feeling stronger, then you're doing something right
