Finance plans for topping up foundation degree

I have just finished a 2 year foundation degree in criminology and psychology at south Devon university centre. My finance for this has been on plan 2. It is not accredited by the BPS.

I would like to top up to a BSc. One of the offers Iv had is from Plymouth university (partner to south Devon uni) to join year 2 of their BPS accredited psychology course in sept 23. So this means repeating level 5. Whilst it’s been confirmed I’d get the finance I need to cover another 2 years, what I can’t seem to get the answer to is whether or not this last 2 years would be on plan 2 as per the foundation degree or plan 5 as a ‘new student’

Anyone else in a similar position know the answer please?

Hi Clare
Spoke to them. They say SFE set the plans and should be able to tell me this. They can’t answer

This conversation ahas been ongoing since Feb! Why can no one tell me what the terms of a loan are ? I wouldn’t take a bank loan without first knowing the repayment terms! Very frustrating!

Hi Laura,

In this case you'll still be on Plan 2, yes - this will count as a top-up even if, in practice, you're entering a new course from Year 2.

Can you tell us the full name of this course and the university?

Thanks, Graeme

Hi Graeme

It’s BSc Psychology at Plymouth University

Is there a way I can get this confirmed in writing in an official document (the plan id be on) please? I’m being told so many different things that I just can’t trust what is right. If it’s plan 2, I will go for this option at Plymouth. If it’s plan 5, I won’t. And this will make a SIGNIFICANT difference to me in my later years of life as I’m a mature student. I don’t want a 40 year plan putting pressure on me into retirement but 30 years I can manage.

This has become such a difficult thing to get resolved for months on end yet has such a massive impact on the decision making and financial burdens later in life
Thanks
Laura

Yes, you can request a letter saying this. We can't do this over social media so please call us on 0300 100 0607.

It's also worth trying to send us a live chat on your account in case you're able to get through that way: https://www.gov.uk/student-finance-register-login

The live chat doesn’t work. It just keeps telling me to log in and then I log in again and it tells me to log in.
