Mistake with DOB on SFE application

My son must have made a mistake with the date of birth on his application as he's received an email stating it doesn't match his passport and to post a copy of his birth certificate which he did. The email didn't ask for a covering letter but he did put his reference number on the back of the photocopy.

However I've now looked up changing the date of birth and answers talk of sending the original birth certificate plus a covering letter. This was not mentioned in the email he received. As long as he's done what they asked will this be OK? He's applying for Tuition only.

Yes, that should be linked to the account regardless. He can also upload that directly to his account if he is an undergraduate student.
