Hello!
Lancaster has a great disabilities service that are very accommodating to your needs and will create an ILSP (independent learning support plan) for each disabled student. This can include lecture accommodations as well as extra exam needs such as extra time or being in a separate room. As a deaf student myself they have been very helpful and accommodating to my needs and updating my ILSP as my condition changes, and they do the same with each student and their different needs.

Hope this is helpful,
Lucy (Lancaster University Student Ambassador)

That's interesting, I've found Sheffield very poor for disability support - and DDSS doesn't organise activities.
Hi @Alixbbb,

Great question! I can only speak from my own personal experience, but the University of Sheffield have been fantastic in supporting me with ADHD and Dyslexia. I was actually only diagnosed with both since being at Sheffield, so it was a massive learning curve for me to establish working and experiencing university life in a way that works for me and my specific needs. The support I received from the university has been amazing, making this experience much smoother and enjoyable.

The DDSS - Disability and Dyslexia Support Service at Sheffield offers a range of systems and support options tailored to meet specific learning needs, including exam adjustments, extensions, learning support plans, and additional resources. I have added a link to direct you to the types of support available HERE.

I hope that helps! If you have any other questions about studying with a disability, using the support services, or university life in general, I’d be happy to share more about my experience. 😃

Hi Alix,

LSBU offers strong, personalised support for students with ADHD through our dedicated Disability & Dyslexia Support (DDS) team. They work with you from the moment you disclose a condition to create an individual support plan that may include exam adjustments, extra time, assistive technology, mentoring, study-skills support and help with applying for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA). The team is experienced in supporting neurodivergent students and works closely with academic staff to make sure your learning environment is accessible, supportive and tailored to your needs.
If you'd like to reach out to them directly, you can contact the DDS team at [email protected] or through the Student Life Centre on 020 7815 6454. They’re always happy to answer questions and guide you through the support available at LSBU.
