it would probably help socialising and getting to know more people first  it's hardy going to work going up to a random girl in the street and asking her out :p: i guess the more people you know and socialise with the further you're going to get...
u need to remember that shes the same as any other person, and if you don't have a problem communicating with them, you should be doing the same with 'her'

I am asking beacuse I'm 18 and have nver had one. I'm 2/3s way through my first year at uni and still have no idea where to look. Where does one meet ppl, how does one know if a girl is interested, how does one ask her 'out', what kind of places do you go to, what do you talk about on dates? (the last one is a very important question). Thanks very much for any advice.

Where to look:
Public places: Pub, Bar, Club, Parties, Social gatherings
Other places: Ask a friend to introduce you to a girl; Online?; Some one you see often (where ever that may be).

You know if she's interested if:
1) She flirts with you
2) She looks at you a lot
3) Hangs around with you (and only you)
But you can never be sure, she might just want to be friends. Make sure you find out for sure if she's interested or not otherwise it could ruin a good friendship.

How to ask a girl out:
1) Ask to go out for a drink.....
2) Way tooooo many ways, search the net, there's loads of websites on this.

What to do on dates:
1)Talk about each others interests, do not give a strong opinion to something straight away as the might think the opposite. If you don't like something say: 'I don't really mind' or 'not really my taste'.
2)Try to bring something unusual like a scarf, wear a unusual looking tie, etc... you could bring it up and talk about it if the conversation runs dry (use this as an emergency tool only). Something like: I got this from Egypt, etc......
3) If you don't like talking, not that confident etc.... be the one who ask questions about her. That way it'll involve both of you without you having to participate much.
4) Do NOT talk about past boyfriends, girlfriends.
5) When she's talking, look attentive, smile, laugh, don't put on a zombie face.
6) Ask your friends if you have any annoying habits, bad table manners, and try to get rid of them!

When I think of more, I'll post.

Thanks very much everyone, Especially MRLX69!
I'll try,but I find it very difficult to start conversations with ppl-and that is knda important.
tbh, I don't have much self confidence and this might be adding to the problem? However I'll try to work on it. I used to think it was because I was very bad looking, but I've been told that that isn't the case- which supprised me.
Well, thanks again for now. Will probably have more questions in a mo!

Cricket? What about snooker, bowls or petanque?
can't stand snooker theres a shot then applause then some random guy picking up a elongated cricket bat and walking around the table only to walk back again and chalk his que, then sit down.

silly "sport"

you know you old when you like bowls

and what is pertanque?
(apologies for the grammar, long day!)

Petanque is a bit like bowls. It's a French sport and mostly old drunk people play it. Anyone who's gone to France in the summer has seen petanque being played. You throw a small wooden ball at a certain distance and then you have to throw your metal balls as close as possible to the wooden ball. You can of course hit your opponents' balls to get closer...

Oh sorry. I didn't realise you were talking about watching it. I thought you meant the sport that requires the least effort... lol

They might even host the world championships in Cannes... somewhere in the south of France anyway.
Did you stare at the sexy players?
LOL... if it had interrupted Bucky O'hare then i would be upset, but luckily i didnt watch cricket back in the day!

watch the ashes in the summer, you'll see.

go and play some cricket, as therapy; you know what they say, face your fear. this would also solve ur boredom.
