The Student Room Group

Is he my best friend?

Long story short, I had a girl who I loved a lot who said she loved me then abruptly left me after a year. I was so shocked and hurt.

A new guy joined our friendship group and I really liked him. Then he meets my ex and hits it off with her. I was a bit shocked again but he said to me 'don't worry man I wouldn't do that to u and go out with her'. Long story short he then started posting his and her dates on instagram and even took her to New York.

I was left reeling from it and this was a few months ago. So obviously the friendship ended.

Now it turns out that my bestfriend of years, has now palled up with him and makes sure he is with us all the time even though they know he disrespected me and lied to me and really made my life **** for a while.

To make matters worse, he is now getting closer to my bestfriend than I am so he basically took my ex and now my bestfriend too.

When I addressed it with my bestfriend, he told me to basically get over it and that the new friend is part of our group now and to just forget it.

Is this normal from a bestfriend or should I end the friendship.
I would recommend getting over it. The dude broke the bro code, but you -weren't dating the girl-, man.

I've tried and made an effort with him, I get what you're saying I really do. Just he's now taking my best friend as well but oh well. I'll get over it.
End it if that’s how they feel. Sorry to break it to you but they care more about themselves than you. They don’t deserve you. You’ll cause yourself more harm if you try and make it work when all they are doing is technically stabbing you in the back with you knowing. They’ve already lied to you. Plus no normal best friend would tell you to get over it, a good best friend would listen to what you have to say and try and figure out an amicable solution. Sorry xx
Time to make some new friends and ditch a best friend who acts about as friendly as the average alligator.
Don't waste your time socialising with a guy who lies to your face, makes promises he can't keep and then expects to be welcomed into your friendship group after doing both.
Or a guy who pretends to be your best friend whilst cozying up to the liar and encouraging him to openly rub your face in the mud- for all to see.
