Mistake on student finance application form

I accidently put my parent down as "separated" instead of "single" and didn't realize until I had sent it and they want evidence of the separation which I can't provide as it didn't happen.

Also other than evidence for the separation they also just want my birth certificate as evidence. Is that normal?

Yes if you didn't provide an in date Passport details we will need your original Birth Certificate with an accompanying declaration form: http://bit.ly/XYndy2

Your parent can prove single person status by sending a copy of a recent Council Tax bill showing that 25% Single Person discount.
