I can't find my Birth/Adoption Certificate Reference Number

Evereywhere online, I keep seeing people say that it's 2 letters followed by 6 numbers but I can't find it.
Mine looks like this: https://help.secureidentity.co.uk/hc/en-gb/article_attachments/204537849/UK_Birth_Certificate.png
The only difference being that the 3 letter code at the top is at the bottom followed by 6 numbers.

Then after my name change due to adoption, I have a certificate of birth with my new name on and it looks similar to this: https://familyfolklore.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/bcertmcw.jpg
the only difference being at the top left hand corner, I have 3 letters followed by 6 numbers instead of 2 letters followed by 6 numbers.

I then have an adoption order (no certificate, I think my mom said the only thing she ever received was an adoption order.) and it has no adoption certificate reference number either (which is also asked for)
so now I'm really lost an confused as to what my reference numbers are and where it's supposed to go.

Hi there,

As far as I'm aware, no certified copy has an indefinite reference number, these are serially numbered for a limited time as a security feature and also to help with the purposes of stock control and financial audits.

The second document you shared is an original and shows the reference number to be on the top left side: YL 602488. This would be the two letters six digits reference number.

For student finance purposes, you can leave it blank if you do not know it as you will be sending the original document anyway.

Regards,
Nihad
