The Student Room Group

I'm so annoyed

I've been trying to make friends and meet people, but no one wants to do anything unless it's in real life which risks spreading COVID. I literally have sent invites out to people who said they wanted to meet virtually only to be sat there in front of my laptop having nothing to do, because they didn't want to talk to me. I'm fed up of spending my evenings alone, just because no one else wants to socially distance. The cases have been going up partly because students are meeting up with each other and flouting rules, but no one cares.

Similar thing here but we've been banned from socializing as a whole. We are allowed to meet outside I think... I'm becoming so bored after starting university a few weeks ago, there are no events to do nor people to really meet. I would love to do more stuff online!

We haven't been banned from socialising but people are doing it way too much for their own good which is making me want to stay indoors more. But no one wants to do anything online so I am really struggling.

May not be with people from your uni but I'm sure there are plenty of people you can meet online (Discord servers etc), it's not ideal but something to do I guess. Loneliness is rough :frown:
So sorry to hear that all. It is terrible if you are an extrovert and social butterfly and having to stay indoors. All I can say is that you need patience this time will pass eventually. In the meantime, watch your fav films tv shows. you can always chat on here with some people. Start up a facebook group for lonely people in the university and ask the uni to advertise it. And have some on line meetups for tea and chat. You can match groups up in accordance to their interests. Take the time to do all your studies so that when this is over you will have done a lot of work meaning you have extra time to be social. Learn a new skill such as cooking or hobby such as crafting or learn chess online chess is fun. If your into cocktails then learn to make some so you can be a dab hand in future parties. learn a language. Make a new normal for now. Do some self improvement etc. and you can always chat on here.

I'm in one or two discord servers, one with people that I'm close to but not that close to.

I'm in lots of Facebook groups and have posted links to virtual meetups. but only one person joins even in really big groups, if even that.

Hi!!

I understand how you feel! I did join societies though which is helping me socialise with social distancing in place!!

Join Facebook and messenger group chats for your course/university! That helped me to meet people

I know its hard this year to meet people, but it is not impossible! Everyone else is in the same situation as you!

Good luck!! I wish you all the best at uni!

Hi!
I know it's really hard, but just know what you are doing is the right thing! Try and find groups online or even make an online society with people from the University, that will appreciate meeting online and being safe. Good luck with everything and stay safe! 😊👍🏻
