Can I decline an university offer in late august?

I have firmed Edinburgh, I'm just waiting to see if I get the grades (which I find out in July). But I've also applied to Irish universities, which isn't linked to UCAS. The offers for the Irish unis come out in late august after the leaving cert results come out. If I got an offer from an Irish university would I be able to decline Edinburgh, even after I have firmed it and got the grades?

Yes, although more likely as you will have met the requirements for the offer you will just be contacting the uni directly to let them know you are unable to matriculate in the fall.

Bear in mind it's likely you will lose any deposits for any accommodation contracts you have signed, and you may be expected to pay that contract or find a replacement as well
