Famliy argument

I heard my family talking about something downstairs and I listened. My sister was arguing then I heard what it was about, my sister wants a kitten, she was pressuring our parents too allow it, we never had pets in the house because no one wanted one and our parents wouldn't allow it but my sister is such a spoilt entitled brat she managed to manipulate them. She now is highly likely be getting one for her birthday, its not fair, she can just do this, change things, she won't even be paying anything towards it, our parents will be paying, there was no family discussion about it and its just like she gets it. Something like this is a big commitment to not only the pet owner but to everyone in the house and it should be a family discussion imo.

I need help trying to reverse my parents decision, I have till her birthday which is a few weeks . I know my parents don't want it but my sister will pressure and pressure if they don't do what she says. I need to convince my parents that is a bad idea. I'm not sure what I will do if I can't convince. I think it's pretty bad what she's doing, she's a little kid turning and she's controlling the famliy (we are all adults as well) manipulating our parents into this and pressuring us adults into this. She's a the only child and she's just doing this to everyone when we aren't comfortable with it. I have asthma as well. I don't know what I'm going to do

I'm not, my family have not wanted pets and we never have had them plus I'm not the one pressuring my parents into stuff, im only trying to get them to reverse the decision because I know my parents or family don't want this but feel pressured to, it's a big decision and should be discussed because its going to affect me

Does anyone know about home visits when adopting a pet? I might be able to tell the person who does the visit that I'm not happy with having this and they might disallow it

Yes, they’ll check your home, but they’ll probably allow it as you’re not the parent…

But it could affect the welfare of the kitten as I can say my sisters manipulated my parents into it because what if my sister doesn't want it because she's a teenager, she socialises and might not be able to take care of it when she goes out

Iam only a year older than her but I would certainly jump her, lmao, tell her animals aren’t toys you cant just get whenever you want, cats can live up to 15 years of age or more, make a presentation about the disadvantages of getting a cat for example they shed, they are expensive, they can cause allergies sometimes, ect. I like cats and I think they make pretty good pets, but if this means the cat will suffer then do everything in your power to not get the cat. 💖💕

It's my parents I need to convince not to get it and not let her take over. Do you know how expensive?

Yes make a presentation + it’s about £1500 yearly, the cat will probably cost around £650, it needs to get neutered or sprayed which can cost £700+ and if the cat gets sick it will need Help from the vet which will cost more.

No the pet isn't my issue, I just don’t want one in the first place and my family don't either but are being pressured into this. Also that is expensive, you can run a car for that amount of money, £600, £700 plus ccan get an alright car and £1.5k can get insurance

It is your parents decision.
You can tell them you don’t want the cat allowed into your room but other than that it’s their choice whether to allow it or not.
Anyone?

Your parents know what they’re getting themselves into. They know she’s 13 and won’t be able to take care of the cat herself. At the end of the day, it’s their house and their decision. As someone else said you can just ask them not to let the cat in your room

How do you know its their house? We are in my flat atm. Also no they might not know as much because we have never had one before so I don't think they know that it costs 1.5k a year

You’re 17, you bought a flat quite young then 🤦🏼*♀️
Also, they’re your parents. They know what they’re getting themselves into. They don’t just make decisions without thinking

It's rented, they are staying with me until I turn 18

You pay the rent do you? You’re name is on the lease is it?

and no they don’t cost that at all.

And also saying “us adults” when you are a child just doesn’t make sense. They are the adults-they make the decisions.
