First day at a job

Does anyone have any key tips for your first day at a job, specifically retail.
The first day can seem daunting but there are ways to ease the nerves!

Arrive early and leave plenty of time to travel to work, that way if anything holds you up on the way in, you have spare time to hand. You could always do a practice run so you know how long it takes!
Always ask if you aren't sure about something. No question is a silly question especially when you are new!
Observe and learn the processes involved in the job and ask for clarification if you aren't sure so that you walk away confident in knowing what you need to do.
Where comfortable clothing that is in line with their uniform policy. Think of suitable but comfortable shoes as it is retail and you might be on your feet a lot!
Be enthusiastic and professional to both customers and colleagues. Remember customers are all very different and you may come across times where customers are frustrated.

I hope those are useful and good luck!

Arrive early
Be friendly and approachable
Take in what they tell you when they are training you up. If you arent sure about something then ask. They would rather you ask and get it right than get it wrong and mess up.

If you've already started, I hope things are going well. Starting at a new place can be a bit challenging, however many jobs you've had, because you never know what to expect, and it is doubly so if you haven't worked before. The book A to Z of office life for beginners has info, which includes starting a new job and learning, though possibly not so relevant for retail work. The tips in the previous posts are excellent, especially re wearing comfortable shoes!
