Well, after using the Wax away I have partial hearing in my left ear (i.e. it's still blocked up with something). However, I did find a lot of wax come out of my right ear. It was a very dark brown colour and very hard.

EDIT - after a second application to both ears - both ears are foaming.
i have gromets in my ear which is counted as a peforated ear drum so i can't use drops like sodium bicarbinate but i find that using oil is the most effective way of softening it so it will come out naturally. any oil as long as you could use it for cooking (so not car oil) is effective and will work.
by the way i went to the doctors and now i should sue him for neglect but i won't because i took the drops and now i am in absolute agony because they gave me an ear infection, so when using drops be careful and check the label.

Yep! The first time, I bought oil from the pharmacy. It's a rip off price, but you get a little dropper - really useful - and then you can just refill the bottle with standard olive oil.
DO NOT put oil in your ears. And whatever you do stay away from cotton swabs too! they are awful for your ears

My ENT does not understand why people insist on this. it is dreadful for your ears. Book an appointment with your GP if you can. If not go to the chemist and ask for sodium bicarbonate (about £2 a bottle). use as instructed and voila:-D

Advice from one of the top ENTs there for you:-D

Yeah, but olive oil's cheaper :h:

Couple of drops a night for 5 days, and one syringed ear later will make you feel like you have super hearing :awesome:
(This is a problem that frequents me tbh, mainly due to having small ear canals).

"People insist on this" because it's what the GP makes you do (olive oil, that is) for up to two weeks before they'll even consider syringing your ear (I've moved a lot, and been to at least three practices and the advice has been consistent).

I didn't realise it was due to small ear canals - it plagues me, too. Hopefully being referred to an ENT... I wonder if they can widen ear canals? :p:
Yes but less likely to cause damage to your ears. which believe me is no fun having bad ears

Yeah I know they insist on it...they meaning GPs. Sodium bicarbonate is far more effective. try that...you might have less issue of it in future.

And no, they can't widen your ear drum

Oh, I thought you meant ENTs can't fathom why people do it. So you literally just stick a mixture of bicarb and water in your ear? Fizzing seems like it would be more dangerous than a bit of oil. :colondollar:

I know they can't really - I was just being facetious... I have this problem multiple times a year!

you're thinking of bicarbonate of soda which is a cooking ingredient.

Sodium bicarbonate comes in a little dropper bottle from a chemist for about £2. its made to clear ear wax and has instructions on it (think its two drops, three times a day...I can't remember).

Two drops three times a day?
Mission.

I need to work, I can't afford to wait around for something to saturate into my ear wax

i may try this if the olive oil dosnt work.

My doctor/nurse who specialises in ear problems recommended olive oil.
A friend could use a hopi candle?
Put a long piece of string in your ear, to act like a kind of make-shift wick. Then set fire to it, depending on exactly how waxy your ears are, your new candle could burn anywhere from 2 minutes up to around 2 hours.

My left ear is blocked up with ear wax (I believe).

How can I safely clear out that wax? Are there any standard houshold items which I could use?

Thanks in advance.

i always use cotton buds to scrape out any wax and do all the ear gaps

obvs dont push them far in though!

DO NOT use cotton buds...EVER. it compacts the wax not clears it and you risk damaging your ear drum terribly
