One of my childhood best mates is dating a prostitute.

Sorry, very naive there about the STDs. Condoms can't protect against many of them, and you don't know where your clients have been and they hold no loyality to you and have no responsibility or accountability for your safety. No doubt she will sleep with hundreds if not thousands of men in her career.

So, long story short... he's most likely ****ed? (And not the good kind of "****ed" that normal people enjoy, but the very bad type of "****ed" which means venereal disease) I mean, I don't like his choices, but that is a bit harsh.

I did not know that about STD's, then again I don't sleep around much.

Tbf I did point out that he should just let his friend be happy. I do understand the OP to some extent as I personally wouldn't want to date a prostitute - I prefer monogamous sex. But if one of my friends wanted to I'd be fine with that, as long as they were happy.

Sometimes people make decisions that think they'd make them happy when in reality it doesn't. And that's speaking from personal experience. :frown:

Oh come off it if she takes precautions she will be fine, while it's perfectly fine to be concerned about your sexual health the whole STD scare is just (an obviously not working) way of reducing casual sex.

Yeah.. there's casual sex. And then there is sleeping with hundreds and thousands.

In that case I'd hope that if his friend wasn't happy he's break it off with his girlfriend. Really sorry to hear you've had a bad experience, please feel free to talk to me about it if you want to. And I'm sorry that you and I seem to have set off on the wrong foot - I didn't intend to make any enemies and I'm sorry if I appeared that way to you!

How hands on is she? Not all prostitutes do oral or penetration, I think some don't even get touched by their clients, some prostitutes are valued for other skills such as playfulness, intelligence and comforting and listening to stressed people.

He told me she does unprotected oral. I never spoke to him about it again, I didn't really react, I didn't know how to... not my place to judge in front of him.

Ho ho. While there are a tiny number of non-sexual one, the vast majority of escort bookings involve at least some sort of sexual contact.

If someone wants playfulness and comforting etc, getting a dog works out as much cheaper.

There's nothing harsh about the truth. Yes his physical health is at risk. But in my opinion is that what you should really be concerned about is his mental health and well being and the emotional consequences of his girlfriend selling her body. I mean yes she's going to buy a house but so what? To be honest if you really loved someone no amount of money would ever be worth them prostituting themselves over. People have so much more value than that. She claims she will stop but I highly doubt she will altogether as she has a lifestyle to upkeep now, she won't earn that kind of money elsewhere at that rate. And clearly money is the most important thing to her character.

A lot of people don't know, that's exactly why it is so risky. For example herpes simplex virus and HPV cannot be protected against using a condom. Also you may not know your sexual partner (or client lol) has these as they tend to flare up and down so you could still catch it in their latent period. HPV is of particular concern to women as it can lead to cervical cancer.

And I don't know what it is about this forum, but in everyday life his choice gets ridiculed.

Only by some people they were foolish to tell, because they mistakenly thought they were their friends.

None of my business really, I hope he is ok down the line, but I would prefer to just blank them out because I don't really want to find out.

It's not just an 'STD scare' condoms can't protect against herpes and HPV, and there is no complete cure for these. Anyway I wrote about that above post and I can't be bothered to type it again. When you are sleeping with 100s or even 1000s of clients 'precautions' aren't going to be enough you are simply playing Russian roulette and selling your body comes with risk, sorry.

You can get herpes from your partner, you're playing Russian roulette every time you do anything with someone, including your partner.

There is about being judgemental, though.

Most adults have at least one strain of HSV, including everyone who's ever had a cold sore.

Of course the risks of both are reduced by condom use.

She may also have had the vaccine against the main strains of HPV linked to cervical cancer.

Sex carries risks, but adults can choose to take risks.

I don't think most people even know they have herpes. It's hardly
gonorrhea is it?
I admire him, too often people just look at a prostitute as some kind of subhuman being and incapable of actually having a normal life. It's a job, as long as she enjoys sex with her boyfriend (in a lover way, not a job way) I see no reason why it should matter, nor do I get why such a lack of sympathy for prostitutes exists.

Stop being such an apologist. There's a difference between having sex with one partner and 100s of strangers. Yes, you can still get HSV from sleeping with one committed partner but chances would be many, many fold less than a prostitute who sleeps with 100s of men.

OP I think we should listen to them! It's perfectly okay to pay for sex and we should encourage all our young women to sell their bodies to men for profit and all men should be enablers.
