Laptop for my daughter

She's only 11, so she wouldn't be doing anything advanced so i would suggest a basic laptop with Microsoft office.

Office application can run on almost every computer at the moment.

What kind of budget do you have and what kind of school work is she actually going to be doing?



For the graphic stuff it's probably cheaper to sign her up to a class or something. Buying professional hardware and software for an 11 year old seems a little extreme.

Is she going to carry t round a lot?
If she has suggested an imac then that is a desktop.
Make sure she is sure she definitely wnats a laptop rather than desktop. You will get more for your money with a desktop at the expense of portability.
Would you consider second hand?


Alternative Black friday is almost upon us and there should be a fair few deals. £300 is still modest. but yopu can get a PC to do what you want .

Wow, i didn't even have a laptop when i was 11. i had a cheap desktop computer with microsoft 2007. literally. Buy her a refurbished laptop- Toshiba satellite C50 is a good one cheap. I brought it for my little brother when he was in year 6 for £150.00 so it was decent price it still works and hes using it right now.
You dont want to spend too much, because she is still young and accidents happen.

Thank you, my niece also has a toshiba c50, for some reason I have been steering clear of a refurb, want to know I can take it back to the shop if there are any problems. What about the hp streams? There between 150-200 and have the power point, not sure if they connect to a printer or any good though?

no the refurb do have a warranty from pc world, and they did replace it when it had a dodgy screen. The hp does crawl towards the pricey line, and i recommend a usb cable printer as wireless will be very costly. Simply keep the printer in a cupboard, and plug it in via USB. however, t can get quite large if it is a coloured printer you want...and pricey. you also wnat to be sure, you can access the re-fill cartridges easily. A HP printer i would reccomend.
