8-10 week Internship during clinical school

I noticed that clinical school summer breaks are extremely short at most medical schools (2-4 weeks). Is it possible to get permission for an 8-10 week internship during this period i.e., taking 4-6 weeks leave from medical school.

Some have a student selected component, where you get to choose what you want to do, and this is often immediately before holidays, so it is possible you would be allowed to use this.
I think it highly unlikely you would be allowed 4-6 weeks of medical school outside of this, as most have a maximum absence of about 10-15 days before they start looking at mitigation

Would they be more likely to grant exemptions if this is a medical-related internship; for instance a clinical internship at a pharmaceutical company do you think? Also how full on is the clinical course pathway, is it usual to be in hospitals 9-5pm every weekday for the duration of basically the entire year straight?
