How do I decide what to do for uni?

It’s coming to the time of the year where I have to decide and work on my applications for where I want to apply to next year and I’m stuck between medicine and Literature. Literature is my entire passion and I don’t see a future where I do not pick up and feel in myself the entire book that I’m reading but I don’t see anything career wise in it. Medicine is something I’ve been working towards for five years and it is a challenge but it is also a passion of mine, not as much as literature, but I see a definitive career in neurobiology in it. I’m very confused as to which one I should pick. Does anyone have any advice?

the advice on the medicine threads would be that if you are not totally sure about medicine, it is better to not apply because medicine is gruelling- just the application process, never mind the degree and professional exams
yet I do understand the dilemma as son has a natural flair for languages and literature, but I think you have to be like him in that you are so committed to studying medicine that it is not a case of where you get accepted even if for literature, you would aim for the very top universities

there is the possibility of graduate medicine but that is cautioned against by the most experienced and qualified of the TSR advisors on the basis that it is more competitive again to get a place and will cost more to do another degree first
however, the implications of the proposed NHS workforce plan could be that it might not be so tough to find a GEM place as it is at present
