Is it normal for a man to be afraid of entering into a romantic relationship?

When a man would rather have an ambiguous relationship with a woman for fear of responsibilities, which may entail the sacrifice of some freedom, and uncertainties arising from a romantic relationship?

Would such a man be considered manipulative and undesirable in terms of human relationships?
If it was persistent behaviour then yes, the older people get the less likely they are to put up with it and the differences in social skills will become more and more obvious.

The sad fact is many people don't really care about one's social skills but often decide their "normality" by their romantic encounters
