Is my friend right to be upset at me?

My friend wanted me to join his football club on Tuesday nights and I agreed without thinking it through properly. It is on the opposite end of town and, I don't drive and it starts at 5:30pm. I said yes because I didn't want to hurt his feelings, but I have realised I would have to be honest and say. He said he would give me a lift but my house is out of his way and it is a 30 min drive from his so by the time I got home from work and he went out of his way it wouldn't really work out. Also there car park at my place takes up to an hour to get out of so no point picking me up from there. I'll admit I should've thought it through more before saying yes and he has some right to be mad, but to go as far as not talking to me, really?
Seems OTT of your friend given your explanation.
