Not Living With Parents
Hi,
I am going to be starting university in September 2024 and looking to apply for Student Finance. My parents currently live outside the UK (in the EU) and I have been living in the UK with a relative for the past few years. I have a court order to prove this relative has parental responsibility up until I turn 18. (Which is soon, I will be turning 18 before I apply for student finance)
From my research, I’ve seen that if you live with a legal guardian you can be classed as independent student. Can anyone confirm this? Do I need any more information other than the court order? Just trying to get things sorted out before I apply. Many thanks.

Hi there,
You would not be classed as an Independent Student due to just having a legal guardian. Are you estranged from your parents and have no contact with them?
