Go halves or take it in turns at paying for stuff. I wouldn't expect a male friend to pay just because he's male

Why would you?

My closest male friend pays for me a lot but never lets me pay for him. It makes me really uncomfortable. Today he finally let me buy him ONE drink, and that was only because I literally threw myself over the bar counter to get in there before he did. I also had to pay for three broken glasses, but it was worth it.
