Hi there. The Special Support Loan (SSL) is available for Full Time students. It’s essentially the Maintenance Loan under a different name. It’s deemed non-taxable and is not considered as student income by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).
Students who are eligible to receive State Benefits may be entitled. If you are entitled to receive the income assessed element of funding then you may be eligible for an increased amount of maintenance loan. If eligible, the maintenance loan will be made up of the Maintenance Element and the Special Support Element. You will need to provide evidence to show you're in receipt of state benefits before the Special Support Element of the loan is awarded.
